An Urban Nature School
for children ages 3 to 6

Licensed Child Care
Inspired by Waldorf Education

Monday to Friday
9am to 3pm
located in Victoria West/Esquimalt, BC

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Tree of Life Nature Playschool!

I choose to take care of children as my job for a myriad of reasons ... foremost, because I believe in the precious and magical time that is childhood and find great joy in being part of nourishing their growth and development and believe nature based education is an essential part of this.
I hope you enjoy roaming around the website to learn more about my program, the beautiful places we explore, the other wonderful people who help make it all happen and the community we try to create amongst everyone who attends.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected]
Warmly,
Kate Lawes

Our playschool follows the public school calendar and is in session from:
Summer July 10, 2023 to August 25, 2023

We work and live as uninvited occupiers on the lands of the Lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples and our outdoor education and play takes place on the traditional and unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən and W_SÁNEC peoples.  Each day together at playschool we give our thanks to the Lək̓ʷəŋən people whose land we stay and play on.  We endeavor in work and life to minimize the harm perpetuated by our presence on this land and stand in solidarity with the sovereignty and resurgence of Indigenous peoples.

As nature educators, we acknowledge the spiritual connection to nature of Indigenous people and the important role they play as caretakers of the land. We seek to learn from their wisdom and traditions as respectful stewards of nature. We aim to show our respect for the land and its people by caring for, and fostering children's love of, nature.

We are committed to understanding the widespread impacts of the residential school system and other colonial policies on generations of Indigenous families. We are thankful to those who share their knowledge and experiences with us.  Thank you Eddy Charlie and Kristin Spray from Victoria Orange Shirt Day for visiting us!

We raise our hands.
